ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- With the indoor track and field season officially completed, select members of the University of Michigan women's team will kick off the Wolverines' 2018 outdoor season Friday and Saturday (March 16-17) at the Miami (Fla.) Hurricane Invitational at Cobb Stadium.
Jade Harrison and Meghan Marias, both finalists at last May's Big Ten Outdoor Championships, headline the group of sprinters and hurdlers that will open the spring season for Michigan in Florida. In total, nine Wolverines will toe the line in Coral Gables in five different events, including a relay, which starts at 1:15 p.m.
Harrison, who owns the indoor school record at 400 meters and was a Big Ten finalist in that event last spring, and the reigning Big Ten 100-meter finalist Marias will debut in the 100 meters and run legs of the Wolverines' 4x100-meter relay.
Harrison and Marias will be joined in the 100-meter event by Julia Hall, Torisa Johnson, Akili Echols, Lauren Morgan and Michaiah Thomas. Morgan and Johnson will team up with Harrison and Marias for the relay.
Hall, Johnson, Morgan and Echols will double back for a run at 200 meters, along with Chloe Foster after she competes in the 400-meter hurdles with Jenna Reid.
Reid and Thomas will also be competing in the 100-meter hurdles.
Much of the group will be making its collegiate outdoor debuts. Johnson is competing in her first outdoor season as a redshirt freshman, while Echols, Foster, Morgan, Reid and Thomas are true freshmen donning the Maize and Blue outdoors for the first time.
Saturday's action will be streamed online via ACC Network Extra, with live results available from Delta Timing. Fans can also follow along with Michigan's official social media channels for updates.
A closer approximation of the full team will be in action next weekend (March 23-24) as Michigan will travel to Arizona State for the Pac-12 vs. Big Ten Challenge against the likes of Indiana, Nebraska, Penn State, Arizona State, California, Colorado and LSU.
