THINGS TO KNOW
• While this weekend's races represent a season-opener for the host Tigers of Princeton, U-M has one weekend of competition under its belt already. Last Saturday and Sunday (March 17-18), the Wolverines put forth an impressive rust-busting effort at the Louisville Cardinal Invitational.
• The first and second varsity eight boats went undefeated at the Cardinal Invite, as they won three races against fast competition such as Yale, Virginia, Wisconsin and others. Altogether, U-M won eight of 12 possible races.
• The 1V8 boat was rewarded for its effort when it was named Big Ten Boat of the Week on Tuesday (March 19).
• Five true freshmen debuted last weekend: Annika Hoffmann (1V8), Kate Burns (2V8), Megan Hinkle (2V8), Emma Luniewicz (2V8, 1V4) and Grace Collins (1V4) all made debuts.
• Former novice program rowers who made debuts last weekend with the varsity program include: junior Perry Bower (2V8) and sophomores Tate Aronstein (2V4), Madison Byrd (2V8), Charlotte Powers (2V8), Sadie Staudacher (2V4, 1V4) and Madeleine Schneider (2V4). Aronstein also rowed in a varsity boat at the Head of the Charles last fall.
• This year's roster features four captains leading the way for the Maize and Blue: seniors Kendall Brewer and Rae Oleshansky, junior Meghan Gutknecht and sophomore Tayla-May Bentley.
• Among the differences for the Wolverines this season will be a new home on campus: the South Campus Performance Complex is home to over two-thirds of Michigan student-athletes and includes the rowing program, and contains space for nine teams overall in the 280,000-square-foot facility, which also holds Michigan's first indoor rowing tank.
• U-M returns 14 student-athletes from its 2017 NCAA Championships roster, including Pocock All-Americans Kendall Brewer (2016 second team; 2017 first team) and Kalia Krichko (2017 first team).
