The fifth-ranked University of Michigan rowing team takes on the Virginia Cavaliers and the Clemson Tigers this Saturday (March 31), racing at the Griggs Reservoir on the Scioto River in Columbus, Ohio. One weekend after Michigan's novice boats competed in an informal regatta in Columbus, the remainder of the program makes a return trip to race the 2,000-meter course.
U-M will face off with Virginia first, and will meet Clemson in the second morning session. Races have been moved up due to weather concerns.
Michigan will send seven crews to compete, including the first and second varsity eights, three varsity fours and both novice eights.

THINGS TO KNOW
• When the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA)/USRowing Coaches Poll debuted earlier this week (March 28), Michigan came in at No. 5. That marks the fifth season in a row that U-M was recognized with a top-six ranking in the first edition of the poll, dating back to the 2014 season.
• In addition to being recognized as a top-five program to start the season, U-M is hailed as the highest-ranked Big Ten program, coming in ahead of fellow conference foe Ohio State (No. 6),
• Last weekend, the Wolverines competed on Lake Carnegie in Princeton, New Jersey, to face off with Princeton and Brown. The 1V8 placed second and the 2V8 was third, but the 1V4 won its race to highlight the event.
• One weekend earlier, the first and second varsity eight boats went undefeated at the Cardinal Invitational (March 17-18), where they won three races against fast competition such as Yale, Virginia, Wisconsin and others. All together, U-M won eight of 12 possible races.
• The 1V8 boat was rewarded for its effort by being named Big Ten Boat of the Week, the conference office announced earlier this month (March 19).
• Among the differences for the Wolverines this season is a new home on campus: the South Campus Performance Complex is home to over two-thirds of Michigan student-athletes, including the rowing program. It contains space for nine teams overall in the 280,000-square-foot facility, which also houses Michigan's first indoor rowing tank.
• U-M returns 14 student-athletes from its 2017 NCAA Championships roster, including Pocock All-Americans Kendall Brewer (2016 second team; 2017 first team) and Kalia Krichko (2017 first team).
