SPARKS, Md. -- University of Michigan men's lacrosse midfielder Chase Young was selected by the Denver Outlaws with the eighth pick in the fourth round (35th overall) of the 2018 Major League Lacrosse Draft on Wednesday (April 18). The selection is the highest for a Wolverine.
Young, who ranks third on the team in goals this season with 12, spent the first three and a half seasons of his Michigan career as a defensive midfielder. A defensive stalwart and dynamic athlete, he boasts 81 ground balls in his U-M career, ranking him fifth all-time.
A team tri-captain, Young made the switch to offensive midfielder on March 9 against Air Force and led U-M to a 14-9 victory over the Falcons, scoring a career-high three goals and adding one assist for a career-best four points. The Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, native also was voted the team Freshman of the Year in 2015. He will graduate in May with a degree in biopsychology, cognition and neuroscience.
Young joins Mikie Schlosser (54th selection in 2017) and Kyle Jackson (57th selection in 2016) as the other Wolverines drafted into the league. Schlosser and former Wolverine Mike Hernandez are current members of the Outlaws, while Jackson is entering his third season with the Boston Cannons. Additionally, Ian King was selected by the Charlotte Hounds in the third round of the 2017 MLL Supplemental Draft.Â
