ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Rising senior Troy Miller of the University of Michigan baseball program signed with the Toronto Blue Jays as a free agent on Wednesday (July 25).
Miller will join right-handed pitcher Alec Rennard, who signed with the Pittsburgh Pirates as a free agent in June. Prior to both free-agent signings, Michigan had three players selected in the Major League Baseball Draft: left-handed pitcher William Tribucher, right-handed pitcher Jayce Vancena and outfielder Jonathan Engelmann.
A right-handed pitcher from Aptos, California, Miller served as mainly a reliever during his three seasons with the Maize and Blue. The righty had a breakout junior campaign, posting a 3.37 earned-run average over 19 appearances, including two starts. He struck out 29 batters in 34.2 innings of work and held batters to a .197 average. Miller also was named to the Cape Cod League All-Star team last week after posting a 1.14 ERA through nine appearances with the Chatham Anglers.
