
Michigan to Host ITA Kick-Off This Weekend at Varsity Tennis Center

» For the first time in program history, No. 24 Michigan is hosting the ITA Kick-Off at the Varsity Tennis Center.
» Michigan is participating in the ITA Kick-Off for the third consecutive season. Joining U-M will be No. 11 Baylor, No. 12 Georgia and North Carolina State, with the winner receiving a berth to the ITA National Team Indoor Championship, Feb. 15-17, in Chicago, Illinois.
» The Wolverines are 0-1 on the season, following a 4-3 loss against No. 22 Alabama (Jan. 19).

The No. 24-ranked University of Michigan men's tennis team (0-1) will host the ITA Kick-Off on Saturday and Sunday (Jan. 26-27). Joining U-M will be No. 11 Baylor (3-0), No. 12 Georgia and North Carolina State (2-0) with a berth to the ITA National Team Indoor Championship on the line.
About the ITA Kick-Off Weekend
The No. 1 team at each site will face the No. 4 team. The No. 2 team will face the No. 3 team. Two matches are guaranteed -- the winners/losers will play the following day. The 15 schools that win both of their matches at these events will be invited to play in the ITA National Team Indoor Championship, Feb. 15-17, to be hosted by the University of Illinois at Midtown Athletic Club in Chicago, Illinois.

• Michigan is 1-3 against North Carolina State all-time. Most recently, the Wolverines lost to the Wolfpack, 4-3, in 2014 at the Varsity Tennis Center.
• Michigan is looking for its first ITA National Team Indoor Championship berth since the 2008-09 season.
• The Wolverines kicked off dual-match play with a loss at the hands of No. 22 Alabama last Saturday (Jan. 19). Freshmen Andrew Fenty and Patrick Maloney each earned wins in singles play in the first dual matches of their careers. Junior Connor Johnston also earned a victory in singles play, while the duo of sophomores Mattias Siimar and Harrison Brown accounted for Michigan's lone doubles victory.
• The Maize and Blue will be back at the VTC next weekend when it hosts Cornell (Friday, Feb. 1) and Oklahoma (Saturday, Feb. 2) to continue its six-match homestand.
