GILBERT, Ariz. -- University of Michigan seniors Meg Dowthwaite and Guadalupe Fernandez Lacort were selected to participate in the 2019 Victory Sports Tours/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division I Senior Game, it was announced Wednesday (Oct. 16). The duo was listed among 38 total selections, while Michigan was one of just four programs with multiple participants.
Coinciding with the NCAA Championships, Wake Forest will host the annual competition on Saturday, Nov. 22, at 7 p.m. at Kentner Stadium. Any individual whose team makes the final four will not participate in the all-star contest, which is slated the day between NCAA semifinals and championship game.
Dowthwaite, a 2017 NFHCA All-American, has been one of Michigan's most prolific goal scorers over her collegiate career and ranks eighth in program history in both goals and points. She has scored 41 career goals with 20 assists for 102 points. Nearly half (16) of her markers have been game-winners. She is a two-time NFHCA All-West Region honoree and was named to the All-Big Ten first team as a sophomore (2017). She is one of three Wolverine team captains this season.
Fernandez Lacort, a 2018 NFHCA All-American, has been a mainstay in the Wolverine midfield over the last three seasons and largely has served as field general from the center mid position. She is a two-time NFHCA All-West Region honoree and earned All-Big Ten first team honors last season. A key component of U-M's penalty-corner attack, she owns six career goals -- including three game-winners -- with 25 assists and 37 points. Off the field, she twice has been selected to the NFHCA Collegiate National Team as an economics major and serves as one of the Wolverines' team captains this season.
Dowthwaite, Fernandez Lacort and the Wolverines will return to action at home this weekend, when they host No. 2 Maryland at 6 p.m. on Friday (Oct. 18) and Penn State at noon on Sunday (Oct. 20) at Phyllis Ocker Field.
