ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's basketball team had three players score in double figures in an 80-48 win over Morgan State on Sunday afternoon (Dec. 1) at Crisler Center.
Freshman Michelle Sidor poured in a career-best 16 points, hitting four triples in the second half en route to her second double-figure scoring game. Senior Akienreh Johnson was a perfect 6-for-6 from the floor en route to 16 points. Sophomore Naz Hillmon rounded out Michigan's double-figure scorers with 15 points. Michigan had 17 assists on the afternoon, paced by four from sophomore Amy Dilk.
With the score tied at 15 after the end of the first quarter, Michigan held Morgan State to just nine points in the second to take a 32-24 lead after the first 20 minutes. Johnson scored on an up-and-under layup at the 8:32 mark of the second period to tie the contest at 17, with junior Hailey Brown finding Hillmon for a three-point play with 6:45 remaining to nudge Michigan in front, 20-17.
U-M led the rest of the second quarter, taking a nine-point lead on an elbow jumper from Sidor with 1:08 left in the first half. Dilk made a free throw with 34 seconds left, sending Michigan to the locker room with a 32-24 lead.
Michigan opened the third quarter on a 7-0 run behind a pair of layups from Johnson and a three-point play from senior Kayla Robbins to take a 39-26 lead just 1:55 into the frame.
Sidor hit a triple from the left corner on Michigan's final possession of the third quarter, pushing Michigan's lead to 58-40 after three quarters.
Sidor picked up where she left off on Michigan's first possession of the fourth quarter, nailing a triple at the top of the key to ignite a 7-0 run. Sophomore Emily Kiser split a double-team for a layup on the left side, with Sidor cashing in on a steal-and-score with 7:26 left and Michigan's lead up to 25 at 65-40.
It was all Michigan from there as the Wolverines led by as many as 32 points in the final period.
Michigan will be back at Crisler Center on Thursday (Dec. 5) when they host Syracuse. Tipoff is scheduled for 9 p.m., and the game will be broadcast live on ESPN.
