ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Freshman Mason Hunter of the University of Michigan men's swimming and diving team posted the eighth-fastest time school history in the 100-yard breaststroke (52.77), highlighting the first day of the Michigan First Chance Meet on Saturday (Feb. 23) at Canham Natatorium.
Hunter's time is also fourth-fastest in the Big Ten this season behind Indiana's Ian Finnerty (51.22), Minnesota's Max McHugh (51.73) and Michigan freshman Will Chan (52.55). He dropped one-and-a-half seconds off his seed time entering the meet.
Others who had solid times include freshman Ian Miskelley in the 400-yard IM (3:51.66 -- 12th in the Big Ten), redshirt sophomore Tim Hanson in the 400-yard IM (3:51.69 -- 13th in the Big Ten) and freshman Jared Daigle in the 100-yard backstroke (48.48 -- 22nd in the Big Ten).
The Michigan First Chance Meet continues tomorrow (Sunday, Feb. 24) at Canham Natatorium. Events will begin at 11 a.m., with time trials following at 4 p.m. Admission is free.
