ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Armed with a 6-0 record through the first two weekends of play, the No. 17-ranked University of Michigan baseball team will kick off its annual spring break trip to California this weekend (March 1-3) with a three-game set at Cal State Northridge (CSUN).
Michigan is coming off a weekend road sweep of The Citadel, during which the Wolverines outscored the Bulldogs 17-4. The Maize and Blue posted a .407 team slugging percentage, including 10 extra-base hits, while the Michigan pitching staff held The Citadel to a .128 team batting average with just one hit for extra bases.
• Junior left-handed pitcher Tommy Henry earned Big Ten Pitcher of the Week honors on Monday (Feb. 25) after an impressive performance in a 2-0 shutout at The Citadel last Friday (Feb. 22). The lefty pitched a complete-game, one-hit shutout against the Bulldogs and struck out a career-high 13 batters. He faced the minimum 27 batters and did so in quick fashion, throwing just 88 pitches in the game. Through his two starts so far, Henry has not allowed a run while striking out 22 batters against just seven hits in 22.0 innings. His 22 strikeouts rank third in the NCAA.
• The Wolverine pitching staff has allowed just 10 runs this season while holding opponents to a .159 batting average and combining for 68 strikeouts over 54 innings pitched. Its starting pitching has been dominant, with 40.1 innings worked against 23 hits (.159 avg.), with 52 strikeouts, nine walks and four earned runs (0.89 ERA).
• Michigan is ranked 17th by D1Baseball.com, 20th by Baseball America, 18th by the NCBWA, and 19th by Perfect Game. Additionally, the Wolverines re-entered the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper poll this week at No. 25. Michigan is the only Big Ten Conference team to appear in all of the national polls.

Another off day is followed by the Dodgertown Classic (March 8-10) at Dodger Stadium with three games against UCLA (March 8), USC (March 9) and Oklahoma State (March 10).
