
Michigan to Host No. 22 Indiana for Senior Day

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 6-ranked University of Michigan water polo team will honor seniors Delaney Cleveland, Kim Johnson and Julia Sellers prior to its game against No. 22 Indiana on Saturday (March 23) at 10:30 a.m. in Canham Natatorium.
Senior Day
• Michigan will honor its three seniors prior to the game.
• The senior class has been a part of 104 wins so far in its four years. They have won the CWPA Championship and made the NCAA Tournament all three years. In conference play, the class has a 22-1 overall record.
• Cleveland came to Michigan from Huntington Beach, California, and has played in 85 games with 32 goals, 64 assists, 96 points, 28 steals, 15 field blocks and 10 sprints won. She earned the 2017 team's Most Improved Player Award, posting her best season with 15 goals and 36 assists.
• Johnson is from Walnut Creek, California, and ranks among Michigan's career leaders in goals (T-5th, 207), assists (T-7th, 118), points (5th, 325) and drawn exclusions (4th, 167) in 138 games. She also has 135 steals and 25 field blocks. Johnson was an honorable mention All-American in 2016, the 2016 CWPA Rookie of the Year, a two-time All-CWPA second team selection, two-time Academic All-Big Ten choice and was the 2016 U-M Rookie of the Year. She plans to play professionally in Australia next year before pursuing a career in real estate development.
• Sellers is from Santa Ana, California, and ranks among Michigan's career leaders in goals (6th, 197) and points (7th, 289). She was an honorable mention All-American last season, first team All-CWPA and the CWPA Tournament MVP in 2018, a two-time Academic All-Big Ten selection and was the 2018 Michigan Athletics Breakthrough Athlete of the Year. Sellers has played in 138 career games with 197 goals, 92 assists, 289 points, 115 steals, 24 field blocks and 100 sprints won. She plans to play professionally in Australia next year before pursuing a career in finance or marketing.
Team 19
• Michigan is 14-8 on the season and is ranked No. 6 in the country.
• The Wolverines have played one of the toughest schedules in the country, with six wins over top-10 teams and six of their eight losses coming to teams ranked in the top five of the polls.
• Under head coach Dr. Marcelo Leonardi, the Wolverines are 123-47 (.724) overall record as the head coach at Michigan.
Facing Indiana
• Michigan will wrap up its nonconference season with Senior Day against No. 22 Indiana.
• The Wolverines lead, 38-16-1, in the all-time series with the Hoosiers. U-M has won the last four meetings against the Hoosiers.
• Leonardi is 5-2 against Indiana in his first four seasons.
• U-M won last year's game, 9-7, and won, 11-6, in 2017, the last time the two teams played in Ann Arbor.
• This will be the first meeting between the teams since Indiana switched from the CWPA to the MPSF Conference last summer.
• Indiana defeated Michigan, 9-8, in 2015 at the Triton Invitational, the last time the two teams played a non-conference game against each other.
Last Time Out
• Michigan made a three-game road trip to California, visiting Fresno (March 15), Stockton (March 16) and Berkeley (March 17).
• The Wolverines defeated No. 13 Fresno State, 17-7. Freshman Abby Andrews had three goals and six assists, while Maddy Steere tallied four goals and two assists to lead U-M.
• Heidi Ritner made 11 saves, including four in a scoreless third quarter for No. 7 Pacific as Michigan won, 8-7. Steere had three goals and one assist.
• Michigan led through three quarters at No. 4 Cal, but a 5-0 fourth quarter allowed the Golden Bears to come back and win, 11-7. Andrews had three goals and one assist in the loss.
• Steere was named CWPA Player of the Week after recording eight goals and four assists in the three games. Ritner was tabbed CWPA Defensive Player of the Week after making 27 saves.
Milestone Watch
• Steere is tied for ninth on Michigan's career assist list and needs one more to move past Sharayah Hernandez.
• Cleveland is four points shy of 100 for her career.
• Johnson is two goals away from tying Ali Thomason for fourth on Michigan's career list and five shy of Alison Mantel for third.
• Johnson is three assists shy of Leah Robertson's total of 121 in seventh on the career list.
• Sellers is three goals away from becoming the seventh player in school history with 200 career goals.
CWPA Season
• The Indiana game will mark an end to the non-conference portion of the schedule for the Wolverines. U-M will begin conference play April 6-7 in Boston, where the Wolverines will take on Saint Francis (Pa.), Brown and Princeton at Harvard. The regular season will conclude April 13-14 when Michigan takes on Harvard, Bucknell and George Washington in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania.
• The CWPA Championship will be held in Providence, Rhode Island from April 26-28. The winner will earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Championship, which will take place May 10-12 in Palo Alto, California.
