» Lau is the first individual invitee since Ashley Bauer's 2010 bid. Overall, U-M has had four individual NCAA selections.

Next on the Tee: NCAA East Lansing Regional
The University of Michigan women's golf team will be represented in the NCAA postseason after a year away with freshman Ashley Lau's individual invitation. Lau will travel to nearby East Lansing, Michigan, Monday through Wednesday (May 6-9), for the NCAA East Lansing Regional. The three-day, 54-hole event will be held at the Forest Akers West Course and will feature an 18-team field and six invited individuals competing for an opportunity to advance to the NCAA Finals. The West Course set up for a par of 72 at 6,387 yards.
NCAA Regional Sites
In addition to the East Lansing Regional site, there are three other regional sites including: Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club in Norman, Oklahoma (hosted by Oklahoma); Saugahatchee Country Club, in Opelika, Alabama (hosted by Auburn); and Tumble Creek Golf Club in Cle Elum, Washington (hosted by Washington).
Advancing to the NCAA Finals
From each regional, the top six teams and top three individuals not on a qualifying team will advance to the NCAA Finals, to be held Friday through Wednesday, May 17-22, at Blessings Golf Club in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

The NCAA East Lansing Regional will feature an 18-team and six-individual field competing for a spot at the NCAA Finals.

Michigan will have one individual competing at the NCAA East Lansing Regional -- Ashley Lau.
Michigan in the NCAA Postseason
• Michigan has been represented in regional competition by the team or an individual 13 times, making team appearances in 2001, '02, '05, '07, '09, '11, '12, '16 and '17. Laura Olin (2004), Amy Schmucker (2006), Ashley Bauer (2010) made central regional appearances as individuals. Ashley Lau (2019) gives U-M a fourth individual appearance with her invitation to the East Lansing Regional.
• The Maize and Blue has advanced to the NCAA Finals three times in program history, finishing 17th at the 2002 event held at Washington National in Auburn, Washington; tying for 18th at the 2016 event held at Oregon Country Club in Eugene, Oregon; and tying for 16th at the 2017 event held at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Illinois.

Familiarity with the Forest Akers Course
• Michigan has competed in 36 Michigan State hosted event at Forest Akers -- 33 of 42 years of U-M golf -- including the MSU Invitational, Spartan Invitational, Mary Fossum Invitational, Lady Northern Invitational and NCAA Regional. The last time U-M was at the West Course to start off the 2014-15 season as the Wolverines tied for fifth with a 928 tally, led by Julia Montgomery's tie for 10th individual finish.
• In 2002, Michigan posted a 929 team tally to finish sixth at the NCAA Central Regional hosted at Forest Akers West Course helping the Wolverines make the first ever advancement to the NCAA Finals, which was play at the Washington National Golf Club in Auburn, Wash. During that 2001-02 season, U-M posted six tournament wins and 11 top four finishes in 13 total events.

Wolverine Bites
• In a battle for the scoring lead, Ashley Lau led the Wolverines as a freshman with her 74.07 scoring average. She is nearly a full stroke better than Ashley Kim's 74.86 per-round average. Lau will become the first freshman to lead the team in scoring since 2015 (Grace Choi, 75.64). Overall, it will be just the third time in program history a rookie has led the Wolverines (Kim Benedict, 2000, 79.24).
• In addition to leading the Wolverines, Lau's 74.07 scoring average is on pace to smash the freshman record of 75.64 set by Grace Choi. In fact, her average ranks as the fourth lowest in the history of the program.
• Lau continued to show consistent scoring, firing a career-best 71 (-1) three times this season -- Westbrook Spring Invitational (third), Landfall Tradition (first) and East & West Stroke Play qualifying (second). In 28 rounds this season she has only recorded one above 76 -- a 79 in the second round of the Wildcat Invitational. For the season, she led the Wolverines with nine total rounds of par of better with six par and three sub-par.
• Lau was one of two Wolverines to start all 11 events this season -- along with Ashley Kim. She posted four top-20 individual finishes with a season-best tie for ninth at the Lady Buckeye Invitational (April 13-14). In those11 events Lau led the Wolverines in four of them -- the Landfall Tradition (Oct. 26-28), Wildcat Invitational (March 11-12), Bryan National Collegiate (March 29-31) and Lady Buckeye. In her other seven tournaments, she was the second best Wolverine in four.
