ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan baseball team (34-11, 14-3 Big Ten) is set to host Michigan State (16-29, 5-12 Big Ten) in a non-conference game Tuesday (May 7) at 6 p.m. in a #StrikeOutALS Game, presented by Michigan Medicine: ALS Center of Excellence. The game does not count toward Big Ten Conference standings.
Numerous promotions are available throughout the evening as the baseball program continues its participation in generating awareness and support in the fight against ALS. The first 500 fans in attendance will receive a #StrikeOutALS K Card presented by Michigan Medicine. Both teams will also wear StrikeOutALS stickers on their batting helmets.
• Michigan is hosting its first midweek games since mid-April with a Tuesday contest against Michigan State and a Wednesday contest against Eastern Michigan. Both games are set to start at 6 p.m. at the Wilpon Complex, home of Ray Fisher Stadium.
• Michigan enters the week on an 11-game win streak, which marks its longest of the 2019 season. The Wolverines made history during the 2018 campaign with an impressive 20-game win streak through March and April, which marked the third-longest win streak in program history. Michigan's current win streak includes victories over Ohio State and Bowling Green, as well as series sweeps of Northwestern, Rutgers and Maryland.
• The Wolverines are 19-2 when playing at home this season. When playing at Ray Fisher Stadium, the Maize and Blue offense has combined for a .310 batting average and out-scored opponents by 113 runs. The Michigan pitching staff has held opponents to a .206 average and combined for a 2.32 earned-run average when inside the Wilpon Complex.
• Michigan sits atop the Big Ten Conference with a 14-3 record and leads the league with the highest overall win percentage (.756). The Wolverines have suffered just one Big Ten series loss this season after dropping two of three games at Ohio State but swept Michigan State, Northwestern, Rutgers and Maryland -- and picked up an additional series win against Minnesota. Michigan was picked by the league's coaches to finish second in the Big Ten this season.
• Three Wolverines are hitting above the .300 mark going into the week, including junior Jordan Brewer (.368), sophomore Jordan Nwogu (.351), and senior Blake Nelson (.346). Brewer currently leads the Big Ten in slugging (.671), while Nwogu ranks first in on-base percentage (.479). Sophomore Jesse Franklin also leads the conference with 36 walks.
• Michigan's offense currently leads the Big Ten in batting average (.287), on-base percentage (.391), walks (231), stolen bases (71) and sacrifice flies (24). The Wolverines also rank in the top three among conference opponents in total hits, runs, doubles, home runs and slugging percentage.
• The Wolverines' 3.06 earned-run average leads the Big Ten Conference and ranks fourth in the nation. The pitching staff has also combined for a conference-most six shutout victories, which ranks tied for fifth in the country.
• Michigan was ranked in four polls this week, including Collegiate Baseball (No. 19), Perfect Game (No. 21), Baseball America (No. 23) and the NCBWA (No. 24). The Wolverines are also receiving votes in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll. Michigan has been ranked or receiving votes in the national polls each week dating back to the preseason rankings.
