ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's tennis team won four singles matches against Notre Dame as U-M completed action at the three-day Wolverine Invitational on Sunday (Sept. 22) at the Varsity Tennis Center.
Michigan went 4-0 in its singles matches against Notre Dame on the final day of action, with freshman Andrea Cerdan, freshman Nicole Hammond, junior Bella Lorenzini and sophomore Anca Craciun accounting for the victories.
Craciun was the first Wolverine off court, breezing to a 6-3, 6-2 win over Bess Waldram to finish the event with a 2-0 singles record.
Hammond stormed back from a 4-0 deficit in the first set of her match and earned a 6-4, 6-3 win over Page Freeman. Hammond was one of two Wolverines to finish with a perfect 3-0 singles record at the event.
Cerdan joined her classmate in the 3-0 club with a 6-3, 6-4 win over No. 116-ranked Cameron Corse. Cerdan raced out to a 4-0 lead in the first set and did not look back in the 6-3 win. The two went back and forth in the second set, with Cerdan going up a break at 5-4 following an exchange of breaks between the two. The Wolverine served out the match in the next game to complete the perfect weekend.
Lorenzini rounded out Michigan's singles victors on the final day of competition, as she rallied for a 5-7, 6-1, 6-1 win over Julia Lilien. It was all Lorenzini as the match wore on, as the junior dropped just two games after the completion of the first set.
Michigan won one doubles match on the day, with Cerdan and junior Alyvia Jones combining for a 6-2 win over Arizona State's Savannah Slaysman and Samantha Alicea.
U-M will continue fall action in two weeks (Oct. 3-6), when it traves to Malibu, California, for the Women's Collegiate Classic.
