ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 14-ranked University of Michigan volleyball team (3-0) will hit the road for the first time this weekend (Sept. 6-7), when it travels to the Dayton Invitational for three matches. U-M will square off with the host Flyers (1-3), Missouri (1-1) and Northern Illinois (2-2) at Dayton's Frericks Center.
• Michigan will play a trio of matches this weekend, with two matches Friday (Sept. 6) against Missouri at 10 a.m. and Northern Illinois at 5 p.m. The Wolverines will conclude the weekend on Saturday (Sept. 7) against Dayton at 7 p.m. Michigan is 2-0 all-time against Missouri, 5-0 all-time against NIU and 3-0 all-time against Dayton. It is Michigan's first trip to Dayton since it won the Dayton Marriott Flyer Classic with victories over Florida State, Pepperdine and Dayton during the 2011 season.
• Michigan's trip to Dayton marks the return of Paige Jones and Amber Beals to their home state of Ohio. Jones hails from New Bremen, about an hour north of Dayton. Beals is a native of Columbus, which is about 70 miles east of Dayton.
• The Wolverines moved up a spot to No. 14 in this week's American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) poll. Michigan is coming off a 3-0 weekend at the Michigan Invitational with sweeps of Oakland and Tennessee Tech while coming back for a five-set win over Northern Arizona. Senior setter MacKenzi Welsh was named MVP of the tournament, while senior Sydney Wetterstrom and freshman May Pertofsky earned a spot on the all-tourney team.
• The Wolverine offense is predicated on balance and that was on display during the first weekend of action. Four different Wolverines tallied double-digit kills in U-M's five-set win over Northern Arizona in May Pertofsky (15), Sydney Wetterstrom (14), Paige Jones (12) and Jess Robinson (11). On the season, those four are averaging at least 2.2 kills per set.
• MacKenzi Welsh recorded the 17th match of her career with at least 50 assists when she handed out 52 against Northern Arizona (Aug. 30). Her 111 assists on the weekend pushed her past the 4,000-mark for her career, and she is the sixth Wolverine to top the mark. Welsh now has 4,013 assists for her career, which places her sixth all-time at Michigan.
• Michigan totaled 28 service aces over its first three matches, paced by 10 from Paige Jones. Michigan is the Big Ten leader in service aces per set at 2.55, while Jones leads the conference at 0.91 aces per set. MacKenzi Welsh also is listed among the conference leaders at No. 14 (0.45 aces per set).
• U-M will see a familiar face on the sidelines for Northern Illinois in Amy Angelos, who is an assistant coach for the Huskies and was Michigan's volunteer assistant coach during the 2016 season.
