• After four days at the Minnesota Invite, eight swimmers either recorded NCAA 'A' cuts or posted times underneath last year's invited line for the NCAA Championships. Seniors Jeremy Babinet and Tommy Cope picked up NCAA 'A' cuts, while Felix Auböck, Luiz Gustavo Borges, Patrick Callan, Will Chan, Will Roberts and Charlie Swanson all got under last year's invited time in at least one event. Additionally, the 800-yard freestyle relay and 200-yard medley relay each met the NCAA 'A' standard, while the other three relays (the 200- and 400-yard freestyle relays, 400-yard medley relay) picked up NCAA 'B' cuts.
• Senior Jeremy Babinet and sophomore Will Chan posted breakout swims on Dec. 6 at the Minnesota Invite. Coming into this week, only three men in school history had cracked 52 seconds in the 100-yard breaststroke: Richard Funk (51.41 in 2015), Bruno Ortiz (51.68 in 2015) and Jacob Montague (51.80 in 2018). Babinet went 51.63, surpassing Ortiz for second in school history, while Chan went 51.91, now fifth in school history. Six of the top 10 performers in program history are on the 2019-20 roster: Babinet (2nd), Jacob Montague (4th), Chan (5th), Tommy Cope (6th), Mason Hunter (9th) and Charlie Swanson (10th).
• Sophomore Patrick Callan is primed for a big second half after setting three career bests at the Minnesota Invite. He moved up to No. 4 in school history in the 200-yard freestyle (1:32.91, No. 3 in the NCAA this season) and to No. 7 in the 500-yard freestyle (4:12.29, No. 4 in the NCAA this season).
