ANN ARBOR -- The University of Michigan women's track and field team concluded its 2020 indoor home schedule with a bevy of top-10 finishes at the Silverston Invitational on Friday (Feb. 21).
Sydney McGinley took the victory in the triple jump to lead the way for the Wolverine women, who -- with the exception of a select few women competing Saturday at Notre Dame -- now turn their attention to the Big Ten Championships next Friday and Saturday (Feb. 28-29).
McGinley was the top finisher in the triple jump, claiming the victory with a mark of 11.20m (36 feet, 9 inches) on her fourth attempt. Teammate Chika Amene was third overall at 10.84m (35-6.75), one of two career-best performances for her on the day to go along with a third-place 58.26 at 400 meters.
McGinley and Amene accounted for three of Michigan's 10 top-10 finishes.
Samantha Saenz was the top non-unattached finisher in the mile, running 4:57.02 after leading much of the race. Only unattached teammate Anne Forsyth beat her to the line, and teammate Faith Reynolds was just behind in fourth.
The Wolverines came away with a pair of third-place finishes in the straightaway events as Michaiah Thomas was third in the 60-meter hurdles in a season's-best 8.53 and Ameia Wilson ran 8.60 for third in the 60 meters. Wilson also clocked a career-best 6.58 for the fastest time of the prelims and the third-best time by a Michigan first-year runner in school history.
Jenna Reid at 200 meters and Charlotte Cochrane at 3,000 meters also were third place, and Eva Jansohn and Julia Sullivan were fourth and fifth at 800 meters to round out the top-five finishers.
The 4x400 relay of Haley Click, Sullivan, Saenz and Lexi Munley closed out the meet with a runner-up finish in 4:03.13.
The distance medley relay team and select distance runners will conclude Michigan's 2020 indoor regular season Saturday at the Notre Dame Alex Wilson Invitational starting at 11:20 a.m.
