Wolverine Bites
• The No. 10-ranked Wolverines are making their 10th appearance in the last 11 seasons at the ITA National Team Indoor Championship after missing the event last season.
• All of Michigan's trips to the national event have come in the past 11 years since the ITA went to the Kick-Off format with four-team qualifing sites. U-M's first trip to the event came in 2010 after winning the ITA Kick-Off at Arkansas. This season, Michigan knocked off Ole Miss and UCF at the Varsity Tennis Center to punch its ticket to Chicago.
• The Wolverines are 14-13 all-time at the ITA National Team Indoor Championship and have won at least one match in each appearance. U-M went 2-1 in 2010, 2011, 2013, 2016 and 2017. U-M picked up a win over Wisconsin during its last trip to the event (2018).
• Joining No. 10 Michigan at the championship are No. 1 Stanford, No. 2 North Carolina, No. 3 Georgia, No. 4 UCLA, No. 5 Duke, No. 6 Pepperdine, No. 7 Texas, No. 8 NC State, No. 9 Florida State, No. 11 Virginia, No. 12 Ohio State, No. 14 Arizona State, No. 17 Princeton, No. 22 Georgia Tech and Illinois.
• The tournament marks the return of Chiara Lommer (Glenview) and Bella Lorenzini (Clarendon Hills) to the Chicago area.
• Michigan will face No. 1 Stanford to open play at the ITA National Team Indoor Championship. The Cardinal is 3-0 with wins over South Florida and Washington State in the Kick-Off to punch its ticket to the national event. Stanford has three ranked singles players in No. 6 Michaela Gordon, No. 77 Angelica Blake and No. 96 Janice Shin.
• Michigan associate head coach Teryn Ashley-Fitch was a four-year varsity letterwinner (1996-2000) at Stanford. Ashley-Fitch was a five-time All-American and won a pair of team national championships with the Cardinal.
• The Maize and Blue is coming off a 4-0 shutout of No. 24-ranked Florida Tuesday (Feb. 4) at the Varsity Tennis Center. U-M won the doubles point and got singles wins from Giulia Pairone, Nicole Hammond and Anca Craciun to avenge a 4-3 loss to the Gators last season.
• Anca Craciun made her 2020 dual-match debut against Florida (Feb. 4), grabbing a straight-set win at No. 5. Seven Wolverines have picked up a singles win during dual-match play, with Nicole Hammond, Bella Lorenzini and Andrea Cerdan each tied for the team lead with two victories.
• The ITA did not release new team rankings this week in anticipation of the team championship, with Michigan entering the tournament ranked No. 10. U-M came in at No. 12 in the USTA poll.
• A trio of Wolverines appear in the latest ITA singles rankings in No. 36 Giulia Pairone, No. 51 Andrea Cerdan and No. 94 Alyvia Jones.
• Michigan will be back in action next weekend (Saturday, Feb. 15), traveling to Virginia to face the No. 11-ranked Cavaliers. U-M does not return to the VTC until hosting Princeton on Feb. 28.
