ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan women's basketball head coach Kim Barnes Arico announced Monday (April 20) the addition of 6-foot-1 guard/forward Leigha Brown to the roster for the 2020-21 season.
"Leigha has proven that she is an exceptional player at the college level," Barnes Arico said. "She has the ability to score the basketball in multiple ways and make others around her better. She has a high IQ for the game and gives us another threat on the wing. Leigha wanted the opportunity to be closer to home in a place where her parents could be part of her experience on a regular basis, so I think this is a great fit."
"I chose Michigan because the passion, team chemistry and commitment level at Michigan is something that is very hard to come by," Brown said. "I know that the coaching staff can develop me into the best player I can be. I couldn't be more excited to begin my journey at Michigan."
Brown, who played her first two seasons at Nebraska, was named the Big Ten Sixth Player of the Year this past season after leading the Huskers in scoring with 14.4 points per game. She also chipped in 3.3 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game while shooting 43.6 percent from the floor. She scored in double figures 23 times, highlighted by eight 20-point games on the year. During her freshman season in Lincoln, Brown appeared in all 30 games and averaged 9.6 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game.
As a senior at DeKalb (Indiana) High School, she averaged 28.0 points, 11.5 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 1.7 steals a game en route to being named an Indiana All-Star alongside current Wolverines Amy Dilk and Emily Kiser.
U-M is coming off its ninth straight 20-win season, finishing with a 21-11 record after reaching the semifinals of the Big Ten Tournament.
