ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's tennis team was named a 2020 ITA All-Academic Team and had five Wolverines earn the ITA Scholar-Athlete honor, the organization announced Monday (July 27).
Michigan was one of 244 Division I teams to earn the team recognition. Programs must have had a grade point average of 3.2 or above for the 2019-20 academic year to qualify. It marked the second straight season that U-M was recognized as an All-Academic Team.Â
U-M had five Wolverines named ITA Scholar-Athletes in Giulia Pairone, Chiara Lommer, Alyvia Jones, Anca Craciun and Lanie Van Linge. ITA Scholar-Athletes must have had a GPA of 3.5 for the current academic year. All five also earned Academic All-Big Ten honors, with Pairone, Lommer and Van Linge adding Big Ten Distinguished Scholar plaudits for this past year. It is the second straight season that Pairone, Jones, Craciun and Van Linge won the honor, with Lommer earning the ITA recognition in 2018.
Michigan finished the COVID-19 shortened 2019-20 season with five wins and was ranked No. 17 by the ITA in the final rankings of the season. U-M had two players -- Pairone and Andrea Cerdan -- earn All-Big Ten honors and participated in the ITA National Team Indoor Championship for the 10th time in the last 11 years.
