ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- In what will be the culmination of a hard month of racing both on the track and on the trails, Devin Meyrer will represent the national No. 27-ranked University of Michigan men's cross country team at the rescheduled 2020 NCAA Cross Country Championships in Stillwater, Okla., on Monday (March 15).
Though his Wolverines were shut out of the NCAA meet as a team, Meyrer will have an opportunity to earn back-to-back All-America awards when he toes the line at 12:40 p.m. CDT for a 10-kilometer (6.21-mile) race around the Oklahoma State Cross Country Course.
Weather conditions are expected to be partly cloudy and mild at race time, with temperatures around 60 degrees with winds just over 10 mph.
Due to COVID-19 precautions, in-person spectators will not be permitted at the OSU Cross Country Course. Fans can follow along on the live ESPNU national telecast and with live results via Primetime Timing. Updates will also be available on the official social media channels of Michigan track and field.
Meyrer, who finished 16th at the 2019 NCAA Cross Country Championships, enters the rescheduled 2020 meet as the fifth-best returner in the field and the top returner from the Big Ten Conference.
Should he notch another top-40 finish for another consecutive All-America honor, he would become the 11th man in school history to accomplish that feat. Another top-20 finish in consecutive years would put him in even more elite Michigan company with Olympians Kevin Sullivan and Nate Brannen, as well as Dan Heikkinen.
In his lone cross country action of 2021 after Michigan could not compete at the Big Ten Championships due to a department-wide pause in activities in January, Meyrer finished third overall at the Florida State Winter Cross Country Last Chance Invitational on March 5.
What he lacks this year in cross country results he has more than made up for in performances on the indoor oval. In the last month alone, he has twice broken 14 minutes for 5,000 meters: first in a 13:52.83 win at the SPIRE B1G Invitational in mid-February and then a blistering 13:46.68 career best two weeks later for fourth at the Big Ten Indoor Championships.
The latter performance qualified him for the NCAA Indoor Championships at the 5,000-meter distance. He will compete at the track national meet Friday afternoon (March 12).
