The No. 2-ranked University of Michigan men's gymnastics team (5-0, 4-0 Big Ten) concludes Big Ten regular-season competition with a two-meet week versus No. 5 Ohio State (4-3, 3-2 Big Ten) and No. 6 Penn State (4-3, 2-3 Big Ten). The Ohio State matchup will be held as a virtual meet on Wednesday (March 17) at 4:30 p.m., while the Penn State meet will be contested Saturday (March 20) at 1 p.m. in State College, Pa.
Wolverine Bites
• The Wolverines hold a firm grasp on the Big Ten regular-season title, sitting at 4-0 in conference meets and 5-0 overall. A pair of victories on the week would sew up the honor for the Wolverines for the second time in as many seasons. The regular-season title was not awarded last season after the COVID-19 pandemic canceled the remainder of the schedule.
• U-M is No. 2 in the Road to Nationals rankings with an average team score of 410.920. Its team score of 413.300 is the second-highest score in the country.
• Michigan is ranked No. 1 in the country on still rings (68.150) and high bar (67.225), and is No. 2 on pommel horse (67.025) and parallel bars (67.413).
• Senior Cameron Bock holds the top spot nationally on pommel horse (14.217) and still rings (14.217). Sophomore Paul Juda ranks No. 1 nationally on high bar with a mark of 13.850. Bock ranks No. 1 and Juda checks in at No. 3 in the all-around rankings, with Bock holding an average score of 87.783 and Juda a 82.962.
• Other Wolverine gymnasts ranked in the top-five on individual events are seniors Nick Guy on floor exercise (4th, 14.283) and Jacob Moore on high bar (5th, 13.617).
• Leading the way for the Buckeyes is Jesse Tyndall, who ranks No. 6 on floor exercise (14.208), No. 7 on parallel bars (13.692) and No. 17 on high bar (13.183). Matt Cormier is the top gymnast for the Nittany Lions, ranking No. 5 on floor exercise (14.210) and No. 13 on vault (14.360).
• Under head coach Kurt Golder, Michigan leads, 18-16, in the series against Penn State and is 23-10 over Ohio State.
