ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan men's lacrosse head coach Kevin Conry announced Tuesday (Aug. 17) the hiring of former Tufts All-American Danny Murphy as the program's new volunteer assistant coach. Murphy fills the void left by Chris Harren, who recently took a full-time job at Holy Cross.
Murphy, who recently completed his second season as an assistant coach at Tufts under head coach Casey D'Annolfo's staff, will work with the Michigan attack unit while assisting in scout and game prep.
"I am very excited to welcome Coach Murphy to our staff," said Conry. "His background brings a wealth of new ideas and perspectives that will mesh in our offensive philosophies, and he has a passion for lacrosse that is infectious. He is a bright young star in the profession."
As a player, he scored 290 points (150 goals, 140 assists) in 63 career games from 2016-19. He ranks sixth all-time in scoring for the Jumbos, and is tied for third in goals and is fourth in assists. In 2018, he had the sixth 100-point season (45 G, 55 A) in program history. A team captain in 2019, he played on three conference championship teams and the 2016 team that appeared in the Division III NCAA Championship game.
A United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association All-American three times, Murphy also was a USILA Scholar All-American in 2019. He was selected to the New England Small College Athletic Conference first team three straight years, and also was a three-time New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association honoree.
Murphy originally hails from Hauppauge, N.Y., and graduated from Tufts in 2019 with a political science degree. He has worked numerous camps throughout the country, and has been a part-time coach for 3d Lacrosse the last two years.
