ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 8-ranked University of Michigan women's basketball team (15-2, 6-1 Big Ten) kicks off a two-game homestand on Thursday (Jan. 20), welcoming Wisconsin (4-12, 1-5 Big Ten) to Crisler Center at 7 p.m. The game will be streamed live on B1G+.
Wolverine Notes
• Michigan is back home at Crisler Center for the first time since Jan. 9 to kick off a two-game homestand. U-M is 8-0 at home this season, outscoring opponents by more than 20 points per game (77.9 ppg to 56.6 ppg). U-M has three players in double-figure scoring at home in Naz Hillmon (23 ppg, up from her season average of 19.4 ppg), Leigha Brown (15.3 ppg on 60.8 percent shooting) and Emily Kiser (11.1 ppg, up from her season average of 10.3 ppg).
• After hitting just one three-pointer in a loss at Nebraska (Jan. 5), Michigan has hit 26 triples over the last three games on 52 percent shooting. U-M hit nine three-pointers against Rutgers (Jan. 9), connecting at a 60 percent (9-for-15) clip. The Wolverines followed that up by hitting 46.7 percent (7-for-15) at Penn State (Jan. 13), including a perfect 5-for-5 mark in the first quarter. U-M's best effort came in its most recent game, as Michigan went 10-for-20 from deep. It was the first time U-M hit double-digit triples since going for 11 against Bradley on Nov. 10, 2019. Junior Maddie Nolan has spearheaded the attack these last two games, hitting 14-of-22 from deep.
• Michigan is off to a 15-2 start, tying the best mark in program history through 17 games. The 2012-13 squad also started 15-2 through 17 games on the strength of a 10-game winning streak after a couple of early-season losses. The 2012-13 season was the first in Ann Arbor for head coach Kim Barnes Arico.
• Maddie Nolan joined an exclusive club after hitting seven triples against No. 8 Maryland (Jan. 16). Her seven triples tied the fourth-best single-game mark in program history, with Katelynn Flaherty holding the record of 10 triples in a game. Nolan, Flaherty, Nicole Munger and Kate Thompson are the only Wolverines in program history to hit at least seven triples in a game. Nolan is shooting 47.6 percent from deep this season, ranking sixth nationally and second in the Big Ten.
• Michigan is first in the Big Ten in rebounding margin at +8.3 boards per game, going 13-0 when winning the battle on the glass. U-M is third in combined team rebounds, grabbing 39.5 caroms per contest. On the flip side, the Wolverines are second in combined opponent rebounds, allowing just 31.2 rebounds per game to their opponents. U-M is 2-2 this season when getting outrebounded. Michigan has two of the top eight rebounders in the Big Ten in Naz Hillmon (fifth, 8.4 rpg) and Emily Kiser (eighth, 8.0 rpg).
• Michigan allowed just 49 points to No. 8 Maryland (Jan. 16), marking the fifth time this season U-M has held its opponent under 50 points. It also was the first time since 2012 that Maryland was held under 50 points. U-M is one of three Big Ten schools to be yielding fewer than 60 points per game, ranking third in scoring defense at 58.9 points per game.
• Wisconsin (4-12, 1-5 B1G) is coming off its first Big Ten win of the season, getting a 49-45 win at Rutgers on Sunday (Jan. 16). The Badgers are averaging 58.9 points per game on 40.1 percent shooting, while allowing 66.0 points per game on 42.6 percent shooting. UW has a pair of double-figure scorers in Julie Pospisilova (14.6 ppg) and Sydney Hilliard (13.0 ppg). U-M has won 11 straight over the Badgers after a 93-81 win in Madison earlier this season (Dec. 9).
