
Michigan to Host No. 3 Nebraska in Big Ten Showdown at Cliff Keen Arena

The defending Big Ten Champion No. 5-ranked University of Michigan men's gymnastics team (7-0, 0-0 Big Ten) opens up Big Ten competition against No. 3 Nebraska (3-2, 0-0 Big Ten) on Saturday (Jan. 29) inside Cliff Keen Arena. The matchup will commence at 1 p.m., and will be streamed live on B1G+.
Wolverine Bites
• U-M ranks as the No. 5 team in the country in the Road to Nationals rankings (392.275). The Wolverines are No. 5 on still rings (67.000), floor exercise (64.775), pommel horse (62.350) and vault (70.075)
• Junior Paul Juda is ranked as the top high-bar performer in the country (14.20). Classmate Markus Shears checks in at No. 3 on pommel horse (14.15), while senior Nicholas Guy ranks second on vault (14.60). Other gymnasts in the top four on their respective events are junior Virgil Watkins on parallel bars (fourth, 14.05) and sophomore Evgeny Siminiuc on high bar (third, 13.90). Junior David Willett ranks No. 8 in the all-around (80.200).
• The Wolverines have stuck nine landings, have counted 10 scores above the 14-point plateau, and have hit 52 routines on the season.
• Of the six Big Ten Gymnast of the Week honors, U-M has captured four, led by freshman David Wolma, who has won a pair of freshman of the week accolades. In addition, junior David Willett (Jan. 17) and senior Nicholas Guy (Jan. 10) have earned Big Ten Gymnast of the Week honors.
• Nebraska enters the meet ranked third in the country (402.050) in the Road to Nationals rankings. Picked second in the Big Ten preseason poll behind the Wolverines, the Cornhuskers began the season with wins over Air Force, Rocky Mountain Pride, and Arizona State but took defeats against Stanford and Oklahoma on Jan. 15. Their top gymnast is Sam Phillips, who is ranked No. 1 on floor exercise (14.20) and fourth in the all-around (80.200), while Charlie Giles and Cooper Giles are 1-2 on pommel horse (14.45, 14.30).
• Michigan leads 12-5 in the all-time series Nebraska. The Wolverines last faced the Cornhuskers at a tri-meet with Illinois on Feb. 21, 2021. U-M took home the win, defeating Nebraska 413.300-401.600. The Maize and Blue also won event titles on floor exercise, pommel horse, still rings and parallel bars, as well as first and second place in the all-around.
