ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- J. Ira and Nicki Harris Family Head Women's Basketball Coach Kim Barnes Arico announced the signings of Macy Brown, Katy Eidle and Taylor Woodson to National Letters of Intent on Wednesday (Nov. 11). The class is ranked No. 18 by Premier Basketball.
"We are really excited to officially welcome these three to Michigan," Barnes Arico said. "We were able to get three Midwest players to stay home, which is really exciting because they are in our footprint and their incredible families can be part of their journey. All three of them are unbelievable students, as well as dedicated, disciplined basketball players. They fit what Michigan women's basketball is all about with their grit and toughness, while filling some needs of ours moving forward. They are all so versatile on the court with the ability to play multiple positions on both sides of the ball. Macy, Katy and Taylor will all be amazing additions to our program with their abilities on the court and their personalities off the court."
Macy Brown
Brown, a 6-0 guard from East Grand Rapids, averaged 20.4 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.8 assists a game as a junior at East Grand Rapids. A four-star guard ranked No. 74 by ESPN, Brown joins her older sisters, Olivia (Valparaiso/St. Bonaventure) and Jillian (Northwestern), as Division I basketball players. Brown earned Division 1 All-State first-team honors from the Michigan Associated Press after her junior season, while grabbing a spot on the second team following her sophomore season (2020-21). Over her first two seasons of high school basketball, she averaged nearly 14 points and four rebounds a game as a sophomore, while going for 11.5 points, 4.7 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game as a freshman. She played AAU for MBA.
"I feel like I have known Macy for the majority of her life, and I am so thrilled she will be joining our program," Barnes Arico said. "I love that she wanted to stay home to represent both her home state and the block M. The way our game keeps evolving, being able to have a 6-0 point guard out there with her level of playmaking is a game-changer. She is long and athletic with the ability to be disruptive on both the offensive and defensive ends. She is a smooth lefty with great vision and really fits our style of play. She brings such a high energy to everything she does and is someone you just want in your program."
"I chose the University of Michigan because of the amazing atmosphere, energy and culture that the coaching staff creates," Brown said. "The team was so welcoming every time I visited, and it truly felt like home. I am also beyond excited to play in and for my home state."
Katy Eidle
Eidle, a 5-11 guard, averaged 19.9 points, 5.0 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 2.9 steals per game for Hersey High School in Arlington Heights, Ill. She was named the 2022 Gatorade Player of the Year in the state of Illinois and is a two-time Mid-Suburban League East Division Player of the Year. Eidle has earned back-to-back first-team Class 4A all-state honors from both the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association and the Associated Press (2021, 2022). A four-star recruit by ESPN, she is ranked No. 45 in the country by prepgirlshoops.com. She was invited to the USA Basketball U18 Team trials this past summer alongside current Wolverine Alyssa Crockett. Eidle enters her senior season with 1,495 career points after scoring 656 points as a junior. She played AAU for the Wolverinas.
"Katy is such a dynamic scorer with a super high IQ," Barnes Arico said. "She really understands the game and makes everyone around her better, which is something we have really been after with our recruiting the last few years. She is such a gifted athlete, can be disruptive on the defensive end and can score in bunches. She is a fabulous passer and can play the point guard position if needed. She has had such a phenomenal high school career with her Gatorade Player of the Year honor last year, and we are really excited about what she will bring to our program."
"I chose Michigan because it goes far beyond my expectations both academically and athletically," Eidle said. "The relationships I hold with the staff and players are very valuable to me. Michigan is a place that will help me succeed in my future, both as a basketball player and a person."
Taylor Woodson
Woodson, a 6-0 forward, is ranked No. 59 by ESPN as a four-star recruit. She has been on the varsity team at Hopkins in Minnetonka, Minn., since her seventh-grade year (2017-18) and has been part of two state-championship teams. She helped the Royals to the AAAA state championship in 2022, going for 16 points and 13 rebounds in the championship game. As a junior, she averaged 14.8 points per game, highlighted by a 23-point effort against Edina. During her sophomore season (2020-21), she averaged 16.3 points per game last year, scoring in double figures in 13 of 15 games and had 20 or more points in six contests as Hopkins went 16-1. Woodson, whose father played football at Minnesota, played AAU for North Tartan.
"I thought Taylor had a phenomenal last season of AAU and was one of my favorite players I saw all summer," Barnes Arico said. "The energy and toughness that she plays with is a staple of our program. She is such a high-energy player who can play and defend multiple positions. She is so dynamic off the bounce and can really rebound the ball. Both her AAU and high school programs have had so much success; she is a winner. She is a great teammate and is so multidimensional with her ability to switch screens and guard any spot on the floor. That is something we love to have in our program and are thrilled she will wear the Maize and Blue."
"When you know, you know," Woodson said. "The University of Michigan feels like it is the place for me to be. The coaches, as well as the players there, have created a culture in which I want to be part of. There is an instant sense of community, a supportive, hardworking, and encouraging environment. Additionally, their ability to hold themselves at the highest level of excellence in all aspects is admirable. Thus, the possibilities are endless. I am beyond grateful and excited to be joining this program."
Michigan opens the 2022-23 season later today, hosting Delaware State at 6 p.m.
