Michigan Rolls to Shutout Win Over Visiting Princeton

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 18-ranked University of Michigan women's tennis team earned its third shutout of the season with a 7-0 win over Princeton on Sunday afternoon (Feb. 20) at the Varsity Tennis Center.
The Wolverines (5-2) snapped a four-match doubles skid, taking the early point from the Tigers. Jaedan Brown and Andrea Cerdan earned a 6-3 win over Brianna Shvets and Nathalie Rodilosso. The duo grabbed the first point and never trailed. Kari Miller and Julia Fliegner won their first outing as a duo helped clinch the doubles point, winning 7-5 at No. 3.
Brown made quick work of No. 63 Brianna Shvets at No. 2 singles, 6-4, 6-2 to push Michigan ahead 2-0 with her 15th singles win of the year. No. 81-ranked Cerdan cruised to a 6-3, 6-2 win over Stepahnei Schrage at No. 4, and Fliegner took No. 5 in straight sets as well, winning 7-5, 6-3 over Joyce to clinch the match point for Michigan. Fliegner's victory is her 20th singles win of the year.
With the remaining three matches in a third set, the teams elected to play them out. Gala Mesochoritou rallied after dropping her first set at No. 6 to Michelle Sorokko, winning 6-3, 6-2. No. 11-ranked Miller was pushed at No. 1 by No. 24 Victoria Hu. After splitting the first two sets, Miller took a 4-1 lead in the third before Hu continued to battle and made it a one-point set, 5-4. Up 40-30, Miller sent a shot that Hu was not able to keep in play to take the game, set and match.
On Court 3, Nicole Hammond was in a tiebreaker with Neha Velaga. Hammond went up 6-3 before Vegalga earned a 6-4 win in the second set. The third was a back-and-forth battle, even in the tiebreak, as Hammond captured it 7-6 (7).
Michigan wraps up its four-match homestand with Pepperdine on Friday (Feb. 25) at 6 p.m. inside the Varsity Tennis Center.
