
Michigan to Host Pepperdine to Finish Homestand

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 16-ranked University of Michigan women's tennis team (5-2) wraps up a four-match homestand on Friday evening (Feb. 25) at 6 p.m., welcoming No. 8 Pepperdine (5-2) to the Varsity Tennis Center. Fans can enter to win a prize pack of a 64 ounce stainless steel Michigan water bottle, a Nike Michigan hat, a Michigan flag and folder that will be given away during the intermission between doubles and singles.
Wolverine Bites
• Michigan (5-2) is wrapping up a four-match homestand before heading to Florida next week for spring break. U-M is 3-1 at the Varsity Tennis Center this season after a 7-0 shutout win over Princeton on Sunday (Feb. 20).
• U-M and Pepperdine are facing each other for the fourth straight season after meeting in last year's NCAA Sweet 16. Pepperdine made a run to the national championship match last season, falling to Texas in a thrilling 4-3 match. Michigan is 2-5 all-time against the Waves and got a 4-0 win against Pepperdine the last time they met in Ann Arbor (Feb. 20, 2019).
• Michigan is 31-10 in singles play during dual-match action, paced by a perfect 4-0 mark from Kari Miller at the top spot in the lineup. Jaedan Brown leads the way for Michigan with six dual-match wins.
• In the first computer rankings of the season by the ITA, Michigan comes in at No. 16.
• Julia Fliegner won the race to 20 wins, becoming the first Wolverine to hit the mark after getting a straight-set win at No. 5 against Princeton (Feb. 20). She is one of six Wolverines to have double-figure singles wins.
• Kari Miller was named the Big Ten Athlete of the Week for the second time in her career after helping Michigan to a 7-0 shutout win over Princeton (Feb. 20). She picked up a win at the No. 1 singles spot over No. 24 Victoria Hu and teamed with Julia Fliegner to clinch the doubles point for the Wolverines.
• Michigan has picked up two victories this season without securing the doubles point, coming against No. 12 Georgia Tech and No. 4 California. U-M is 3-0 when winning the match's first point and 2-2 when dropping the doubles point. The Wolverines have used six different combinations on the doubles court during dual matches this season, with Nicole Hammond and Anca Craciun playing as a team in all seven matches.
• The Wolverines have a pair of ranked singles players in No. 11 Kari Miller and No. 81 Andrea Cerdan.
• Pepperdine (5-2) heads to the Midwest this weekend to face U-M and Ohio State (Feb. 27). The Waves recently made a run to the semifinals of the ITA National Team Indoor Championship before falling to eventual runner-up Oklahoma. Pepperdine has six ranked singles players in No. 8 Lisa Zaar, No. 16 Shiori Fukuda, No. 23 Taisiya Pachkaleva, No. 34 Victoria Flores, No. 71 Nikki Redelijk and No. 90 Janice Tjen, along with three ranked doubles teams.
• Michigan head coach Ronni Bernstein, who is in her 15th season in Ann Arbor, became Michigan's all-time winningest coach earlier this season. Bernstein is up to 290 victories at Michigan following a 7-0 win over Princeton (Feb. 20). In addition, Bernstein can become the first coach to win 300 matches at Michigan with 10 more wins this season.
• Michigan hits the road for its spring break trip next week, heading to Florida to face UCF (March 5).
