Brooks' Perfect 10 against Nebraska Helps U-M Close B1G Season Unbeaten

LINCOLN, Neb. -- The No. 1- ranked University of Michigan women's gymnastics team closed out its Big Ten Conference season with a 196.475-196.225 road victory over Nebraska on Saturday, Feb. 26, at the Devaney Center.
Junior Sierra Brooks earned her first career 10.0 with a perfect score on the vault for the Wolverines (12-0, 9-0 B1G) and took home three events titles on the day, while senior Natalie Wojcik won the balance beam title. Brooks not only took home the vault title but also won the floor exercise with a 9.975 and scored a 39.725 for the win in the all-around.
Michigan had three straight scores of 9.900 or higher on the uneven bars in its first rotation of the day with Abby Heiskell leading U-M with a 9.950 and a team score of 49.500 after one complete rotation.
The Wolverines struggled to start on the vault, but sophomore Naomi Morrison started to reignite the Michigan energy with a 9.875. Following Morrison, Brooks stepped up and posted a perfect 10.0, the fourth of the season for Michigan on the vault, to earn the event title. Despite the perfect score from Brooks, Michigan would trail Nebraska, 97.900-97.875, heading into the third rotation.
U-M regained the lead in the third rotation as Heiskell scored a 9.950 in the second spot on the floor and Morrison matched the 9.950 in the fourth spot.
Brooks tied a career-high 9.975 as she anchored the floor rotation and captured her second title of the day. With the three scores of 9.900 or better in the third rotation, the Wolverines took a 147.300-147.000 lead into the final event of the day.
Brooks continued to impress with a stellar beam performance before Wojcik stepped up and won the event with a 9.900 to all but seal the win for the Maize and Blue.
Freshman Jacey Vore closed out the meet with a 9.850 as Michigan finished the Big Ten Conference schedule perfect with the victory over Nebraska.
The Wolverines will continue road competition when they travel to No. 2 Oklahoma on Friday, March 4, for an 8 p.m. CST showdown on ESPN2.
