ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan men's tennis team will open Big Ten Conference play this weekend as it continues a five-match homestand at the Varsity Tennis Center. The Wolverines will open with Nebraska on Friday (March 25) at 4 p.m. and take on Wisconsin on Sunday (March 27) at noon.
WOLVERINE BITES
• Michigan catapulted to No. 5 in the ITA rankings after a 3-0 week with shutout victories over No. 16 Columbia, No. 2 Ohio State and No. 6 Baylor.
• The Wolverines are 10-2 on the season and have won the last seven matches including a 4-1 upset win over No. 1 TCU on March 2.
• Nick Beaty was named the Big Ten Athlete of the Week after posting a 3-0 singles record and 3-0 doubles record during the week and clinching team wins over Columbia and Baylor.
• Ondrej Styler is the highest ranked singles player for the Wolverines, checking in at No. 27 with a 10-3 singles mark after winning his last four matches.
• Andrew Fenty is No. 33 after winning his last four matches and is 5-3 in dual play.
• Jacob Bickersteth (No. 43) and Patrick Maloney (No. 122) are both riding six-match win streaks.
• Gavin Young, the B1G Singles Champion in the fall, has the most singles wins on the team with an 18-5 mark .
• Nino Ehrenschneider/Fenty moved up to No. 6 in ranked doubles with a 12-3 record.
• Styler/Gavin Young are now ranked No. 22 in doubles as the pair is 5-2 in dual play.
• Maloney/Beaty are on a six-match win streak in doubles, boasting an 8-1 dual match record.
VS. THE OPPONENTS
• Nebraska, coached by former Michigan assistant coach Sean Maymi, is 4-11 on the season.
• Michigan is 8-1 against the Huskers and has won the last four matches all via shutout.
• Wisconsin is 6-7 and is 1-5 when playing away from Madison this season.
• Michigan holds an 82-9-1 record in the Wisconsin series and has won the last 12 matches versus the Badgers.
