CARYVILLE, Tenn. -- As its spring training trip drew to a close, the No. 4-ranked University of Michigan rowing program raced against the University of Tennessee during a scrimmage session Friday (March 4) on Norris Lake.
The team rowed against Louisville earlier in the week, and one day before making the journey back to Ann Arbor, the Wolverines lined up against Tennessee.
Official results were not kept, but the Maize and Blue competed a full Big Ten squad with varsity and novice eights and varsity fours. Tennessee rowed three eights and two fours.
First, crews made their way through four 2,000-meter pieces with controlled stroke rates. Then the workout wrapped with four short pieces at 250 meters. Overall, head coach Mark Rothstein was pleased with his team's progress during a pivotal week of preparation.
"We have one more row (tomorrow), but today's racing was a great way to cap off the trip," said Rothstein. "The trip has been productive overall, and competing against quality programs like Tennessee and Louisville has proven to be a meaningful way to get our team ready to attack the spring season."
U-M will return to Ann Arbor after a week of training, and will race again at home on Saturday, March 26. Races are set to begin at 9 a.m. on Belleville Lake.
