WALNUT, Calif. -- Running in a stacked field of professional and top collegiate squads, the Wolverines' 4x400 relay posted one of the fastest times in school history on the strength of a sensational closing anchor leg from Ziyah Holman.
The quartet of Savannah Sutherland, Chika Amene, Hannah Waller and Holman combined to run 3:36.86 for seventh place, equaling the No. 4 time in program history along the way.
Though the Wolverines were out of contention for the win in the second of two sections by the time Holman received the baton for the anchor leg, she made the most of her opportunity and moved Michigan up to fourth in the race, picking off Houston in the closing stretch.
Holman closed in 51.24, the second-fastest official split in either section of the invitational 4x400 competition. Only Olympic champion Athing Mu (50.43) went faster.
This squad tied last year's crew from the Billy Hayes Invitational -- also featuring Amene, Waller and Holman -- that went on to run 3:35.90 two weeks later at the Big Ten Championships for the second-fastest time in school history.
The Wolverines' 4x100 relay squad put down a second strong time this weekend, as the quartet of Hanna Hearn, Ameia Wilson, Waller and BreeAna Bates finished seventh in 45.53. On Friday, that group also ran 45.43 in an earlier round.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Michigan picked up a pair of individual victories in the lone day of competition at the Louisville Invitational, both courtesy of the Wolverines' distance squad.
Julia Vanitvelt won the 3,000 meters and finished runner-up at 1,500 meters in career-best fashion, while steeplechaser Lauren Fulcher won the 400-meter hurdles in a test of her speed.
Vanitvelt opened her day with a 4:25.90 personal best for 1,500 meters, slashing more than four seconds off her previous record from last weekend. She doubled back later in the afternoon to take the 3,000 meters in 10:02.98.
Fulcher chopped more than half a second off her 400 hurdles PR to take the win in 1:00.78.
First-year collegian Samantha Hastie turned in arguably the strongest mark of the day with a career-best 2:07.24 for third at 800 meters in a relatively deep field.
