ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's track and field team will embark on its final regular-season road trip this Thursday through Saturday (April 28-30) as it returns to the prestigious Drake Relays for the first time since 2016.
Wolverines from all disciplines -- sprints, distance, jumps and throws -- will test themselves at one of America's oldest and most competitive meets in what will likely be the last competition for Michigan's top contenders ahead of the postseason. The Big Ten Championships at Minnesota await on May 13-15.
The 112th edition of the Drake Relays gets underway Thursday at 5 p.m. CT with a distance-only session of racing, including the top sessions of the 5,000 meters featuring All-Americans Ericka VanderLende and Katelynne Hart.
Friday is divided into two sessions, with Michigan competitors beginning in the early session at 11:30 a.m. CT and the evening session at 5:26 p.m. CT.
Friday's early session will feature, among others, multiple-time All-American Aurora Rynda at 800 meters; school record-breaking pole vaulters Brooke Tjerrild, Jessica Mercier and Mia Manson as part of one of the nation's best vault crews; indoor Big Ten silver-medal hurdler Aasia Laurencin in 100-meter hurdles prelims competition; breakthrough throwers Corinne Jemison and Amanda Schaare in the discus; and U-M first-year record holders Savannah Sutherland (400-meter hurdles), Riley Ammenhauser (triple jump) and BreeAna Bates (100 meters).
Among those representing Michigan in the evening session will be multiple-time Big Ten champion Ziyah Holman in her signature 400-meter distance and at 200 meters; former Big Ten Athlete of the Week Ameia Wilson in the long jump; Jemison and Schaare in the shot put; and 2022 distance standouts Sam Tran and Kayla Windemuller at 1,500 meters.
Saturday's final session of action will include teams in the distance medley, sprint medley, 4x100 (pending advancement) and 4x400 relays, as well as potential finals in the 100 meters and 100-meter hurdles. Action for Michigan will begin at 12:10 p.m. CT and conclude just before 3 p.m. CT.
Runnerspace will carry live streams of the Drake Relays on its subscription streaming service. Runnerspace+ coverage will be blacked out Saturday at 1-3 p.m. CT, during which time fans can watch the meet on CBS Sports Network linear television and its online platform.
Live results at Drake will be provided through Primetime Timing.
Updates will be posted to the official Michigan track and field social media channels throughout the weekend.
