
13th-Ranked Michigan Stumbles at Home in Loss to No. 17 USC

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 13-ranked University of Michigan women's lacrosse team rallied in the fourth quarter but couldn't overcome its deficit as No. 17 University of Southern California took a 14-10 game on Sunday (April 3) at Michigan Lacrosse Stadium.
The teams exchanged goals and were tied at 5-5 late in the second quarter before the Trojans went on run with six unanswered goals for the 11-5 edge late in the third. Michigan kept trying to chip away at the deficit and rallied for four goals in the fourth, including two in the final two minutes, but USC's three fourth-quarter goals sealed the 14-10 win for the Trojans.
Kaley Thompson net a hat trick and caused two turnovers, while Erin Garvey had a three-point game with two goals and one assist. Kaitlyn Mead won half of her team's draws -- nine total. Arielle Weissman got the start in goal and recorded her 200th career save on her first save of the contest. Weissman made four saves through 39:30 before Erin O'Grady went in on relief and made two stops.
Julia Schwabe had a highlight reel goal in the first, leaping to catch a Garvey pass and fired it past the USC netminder.

Kelsey Huff led the Trojans with four goals and Maddie Dora had three goals and one assist. Ella Heany added two goals and one assist. Christina Gagnon won five draw controls and Olivia Dooley caused four turnovers. In goal, Kait Devir made five saves.
Michigan returns to Big Ten play next Friday (April 8), hosting Ohio State in a Maize Out at Michigan Lacrosse Stadium. Opening draw is slated for 7:30 p.m.
