Wolverine Bites
• Michigan (11-5, 5-1 B1G) went 1-1 last weekend, bouncing back from a tough loss at No. 8 Ohio State on Friday (April 1) to knock off Penn State on Sunday (April 3). Kari Miller (2-0), Jaedan Brown (2-0) and Gala Mesochoritou (1-0) were unbeaten on the weekend in singles, with Brown and Andrea Cerdan posting a perfect 2-0 record at the No. 1 doubles spot.
• Michigan is tied for third place in the Big Ten with Illinois, as both teams sport 5-1 records. Ohio State (5-0) and Northwestern (6-0) are atop the league standings as the two remaining unbeaten teams. OSU and NU are set to face each other on Friday (April 8) in Columbus.
• U-M is in at No. 22 this week in the ITA rankings after a 1-1 weekend. MSU is ranked No. 75 in the latest computer rankings.
• The Wolverines are wrapping up a five-match road swing this weekend at Michigan State, the first time U-M is competing in the state of Michigan since a 4-0 win over Purdue on March 20. After this weekend's match, the Wolverines play three of their final four matches at the VTC.
• U-M now has four players in the 20-win club in Julia Fliegner (24), Jaedan Brown (22), Nicole Hammond (21) and Kari Miller (21). With limited seasons the last several years, it is the first 20-win season for each of them and the first 20-win season by any Wolverine since the 2018-19 campaign.
• Michigan has four ranked singles players in the latest ITA rankings in No. 13 Kari Miller, No. 73 Jaedan Brown, No. 119 Nicole Hammond and No. 121 Andrea Cerdan. Brown and Cerdan team up to form the No. 70-ranked doubles duo.
• After missing the tail end of last season and the entire fall slate, Gala Mesochoritou is the owner of Michigan's longest active winning streak at five matches after a pair of weekend wins. She is 9-5 in dual matches this season, highlighted by a 7-4 record at No. 6.
• Kari Miller has anchored Michigan at the top of the lineup, going 10-2 at No. 1 in dual matches. With a three-set win over No. 26 Isabelle Boulais of Ohio State (April 1), Miller now has seven singles wins against ranked opponents in dual-match play. She has been named the Big Ten Athlete of the Week twice this season.
• Michigan State (9-8, 1-5 B1G) has lost five straight after dropping road matches at Penn State and Ohio State last weekend. U-M swept a pair of matches from the Spartans last season and has won 21 straight against the Spartans.
• U-M is 142-8 (.947) in Big Ten regular-season play under head coach Ronni Bernstein. She has led the Wolverines to nine of the last 11 Big Ten championship titles awarded (no title awarded in 2020), as well as three tournament crowns since taking over prior to the 2007-08 season.
• Michigan head coach Ronni Bernstein, who is in her 15th season in Ann Arbor, became Michigan's all-time winningest coach earlier this season. Bernstein is up to 296 victories at Michigan following a 1-1 weekend. In addition, Bernstein can become the first coach to win 300 matches at Michigan with four more wins this season.
