ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan women's water polo head coach Cassie Churnside announced Friday (Oct. 20) that Catie Wallace has joined the staff as an assistant coach.
"We are beyond excited to Catie join our staff," said Churnside. "She is the missing piece to our staff, and her coaching philosophy aligned very well with ours. We can't wait for her to get started. Go Blue!"
Wallace comes to Ann Arbor after serving as a coach at New Trier Aquatics in Winnetka, Ill., for two years. At New Trier, Wallace guided the 18U girls team to a third-place finish in the Platinum division at the Junior Olympics in 2022. Wallace also accompanied the team to international trips to Greece and Hungary and also served as an assistant on the 18U boys coaching staff, helping New Trier to its second Illinois state championship.
Prior to the start of her coaching career, Wallace competed in water polo at Division I level at California. In her four years with the Golden Bears, Wallace appeared in 12 games, tallying 13 goals and 20 assists.
Wallace was a standout two-sport high school athlete at Fenwick High School in Oak Park, Ill., earning All-America honors three times in both swimming and water polo. Wallace propelled the water polo team to two Illinois state championships.
Beyond the pool, Wallace is pursuing her master's degree in health law at Loyola Chicago to go along with her bachelor's degree in public health from Cal.
