MADISON, Wis. -- On the back of four top-25 individual finishes, the No. 25-ranked University of Michigan men's cross country team finished third among 30 teams at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional on Friday (Nov. 10) at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course.
Once again, Tom Brady paced the Wolverines, finishing third overall with a time of 29:41.8, less than a second behind the top-two finishers from hosts Wisconsin. Brady stayed in the lead pack from start to finish. The graduate student started in 20th through the first 2K but worked his way up to the top five at the 4K mark and held his ground for the remainder of the meet to earn an All-Region honor.
Nick Foster had a strong performance in his third meet of the season in Wisconsin, logging a time of 30:10.1. Foster's position changed frequently throughout the race, starting in 26th before reaching as high as fourth overall at the 4K mark before falling to 20th overall at 8,000 meters. Foster finished strong to pick up four spots and finish 16th -- good for All-Region recognition.
After garnering All-Big Ten second-team recognition, Owen MacKenzie followed up with an 18th-place result in a time of 30:11.7 to land on the All-Region team. Luke Venhuizen rounded out the All-Region honorees, earning 24th and logging a time of 30:18.9.
Caleb Jarema closed out the scoring for the Maize and Blue, crossing the line at 30:29.4 to finish 32nd overall. Nathan Lopez grabbed 37th overall, and Zach Stewart finished 47th to wrap up the meet for Michigan.
The Wolverines will await their nationals fate with the NCAA Selection Show, scheduled to be streamed live on Saturday (Nov. 11) at 5 p.m on NCAA.com. If it receives an at-large bid, Michigan will travel to Charlottesville, Va., to compete at the NCAA Championships on Nov. 18.
