ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's basketball team shot the lights out at Crisler Center on Wednesday (Nov. 29), tying a school record 14 triples and got 67 points off the bench to defeat the SIUE 103-59.
Four separate Wolverines posted double-digit totals in points in the contest, with Alyssa Crockett leading the pack after posting a career high of 16 points. Lauren Hansen also set a new season high in the contest, scoring 14 points on 4-for-8 shooting and four free throws. Jordan Hobbs scored 12 points on 4-for-5 shooting, while Macy Brown went for a career-best 12 points on 5-for-6 shooting. All 13 Wolverines found the scoring column and scorched the nets, shooting 56.5 percent from the floor and 56 percent from three-point range. U-M held a 50-27 advantage on the glass, anchored by a career-best nine rebounds for Whitney Sollom in 10 minutes of action.
The Wolverines battled through a slow start to take their first lead of the game deep into the opening quarter, making seven consecutive shots while denying the Cougars a single make for almost six minutes of game clock. Crockett needed just eight minutes on the floor to pass her career high in points, scoring 10 points on 3-for-3 shooting and a pair of free throws to put the Maize and Blue up 28-17 after one.
Michigan stayed red hot after the break, making five of their first six in the quarter to push the lead to 17 headed into the final five minutes. The momentum only snowballed from then on, as the Maize and Blue went on a 14-4 run over four and a half minutes led by Hansen and Greta Kampschroeder, who contributed six and five points in the run, respectively. As the buzzer sounded on the half, the Wolverines took a 50-28 lead into the locker room.
Hobbs brought the home side out with a bang for the second half, downing a pair of three-balls en route to a 15-4 blitz of the first four minutes for Michigan. While SIUE pushed back with a quick eight point run of its own, the Maize and Blue continued to find the basket at will, ultimately posting 28 points to push the score to 78-47 headed into the final 10 minutes.
In the midst of a 16-2 run to start the fourth quarter, Crockett sank Michigan's 14th three pointer of the game, tying a school record set against Ball State on Nov. 11, 2009. While the record ultimately stayed unbroken, the Wolverines crossed the 100-point mark for the first time this season, finishing with a 103-59 victory to end their two-game homestand.
The Wolverines make their first stop of a three-game road trip on Saturday (Dec. 2), traveling to Cambridge, Mass., to square off against Harvard.
