PRINCETON, N.J. -- The University of Michigan Water polo team fell to No. 3 Harvard 9-8 on a last-second goal from the Crimson on Saturday (April 29) in a CWPA Championship semifinal game at DeNunzio Pool. The loss is the first in the series against Harvard, which stands at 19-1.

Kata Utassy led the Wolverines, racking up six goals including the first five of the game for U-M (22-10). Alex Brown finished the game with 11 saves, tying the senior saves record of 315.

Harvard started scoring three goals within the first three minutes of the game. Utassy got the Wolverines on the board with goal from the right side with three minutes left in the first to get U-M within two at 3-1.

The only goal in the second quarter came from the Crimson with 35 seconds left on the cock, giving Harvard a 4-1 lead heading into halftime.

Harvard started the third quarter like it did the first with three straight goals and pulling to a 7-1 lead. Utassy scored back-to-back goals in the last minute of the third, earning a hat trick to bring Michigan within four at 7-3.

In the fourth quarter, Harvard scored first but Michigan went on a five-goal run led by three goals from Utassy and one each from Ava Morrant and Erin Neustrom. The Crimson fired a final shot that sneaked past Brown with one second left in the game, and Harvard took the 9-8 victory.

Michigan will play Saint Francis in the third-place game on Sunday (April 30) at 10 a.m. at to take on Saint Francis in the CWPA third-place game at DeNunzio Pool
