
Michigan Earns First NCAA Tournament Berth, Will Face Cornell in First Round

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- The No. 15-ranked University of Michigan men's lacrosse team earned its first NCAA Tournament berth as the Big Ten's automatic qualifier and will take on No. 6-ranked Cornell in the first round it was announced Sunday (May 7) by the NCAA.
The Wolverines' matchup with the Big Red will take place Sunday, May 14 at 2:30 p.m. in Ithaca, N.Y., and the contest will be broadcast live on ESNPU.
U-M's trip to Ithaca will mark its second-ever showdown with Cornell, with the first resulting in a 15-14 defeat on March 1, 2014 inside Oosterbaan Fieldhouse.
Michigan earned the Big Ten Conference's automatic berth on Saturday (May 6) with a 14-5 win over Maryland in the Big Ten Tournament championship game.
The Wolverines have posted a program-record nine wins against six defeats this season, with three wins over ranked opponents highlighted by a pair of victories over Maryland and a Big Ten Tournament win over Penn State.
Michigan is one of four schools representing the Big Ten in the NCAA Tournament, along with Penn State, Johns Hopkins, and Maryland.
