ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches named its 2023 Women's Division I All-America teams on Thursday (June 1), with University of Michigan student-athletes Erin Neustrom and Kata Utassy both earning honorable mention status.
Neustrom, a graduate student, capped off her U-M career in impressive fashion after being named to the Cutino Award Watch List in the preseason. The Moraga, Calif., native played in all 33 games while earning All-CWPA first-team honors and setting a career record for drawn exclusions with 256. In addition, she scored a single-season best 45 goals after scoring 43 the previous year and ended her career with 177 goals and 21 assists for 198 points.
Utassy, a junior, also earned All-CWPA first-team accolades after setting single-season records at Michigan in points (143) on the strength of 83 goals in 32 games -- more than twice as many as U-M's second-leading scorer. Twice this season, she scored six goals in a game, including in a win over No. 18-ranked Harvard on April 29. In addition, she logged a season-high 10 points in a win over Azusa Pacific in early January. The Academic All-Big Ten selection also set a career-high with 43 steals, finishing third on the team and just three steals shy of the team's top mark.
Michigan finished its season with a 23-10 overall record and a 9-1 mark in CWPA play.
