ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's track and field team will host the Simmons-Harvey Invitational, the second of three-straight home meets to start the season, on Satuday (Jan. 20) at the U-M Indoor Track Building. Field events are slated to begin at the 10 a.m. with the track events set to start at 11 a.m.
Notes
• U-M opened the season hosting the Wolverine Invitational last weekend, with strong performances all around. Aasia Laurencin posted the No. 18 NCAA time in 60-meter hurdles, finishing second in the finals in 8.24 seconds. She set a personal best in the 60-meter dash preliminaries (7.55), before finishing sixth in the finals.
• The Maize and Blue went 2-3 in the 800-meter run, with transfer Penelopea Gordon earning a second-place finish (2:08.02) and Cassie Kearney setting a personal-best time of 2:08.40 to finish in third.
• Sidney Green had an impressive U-M debut, setting the program record in the 300 meters (38.36) and finishing third. Trinity Henderson finished fourth with a career-best time of 38.74.
• In the shot put, Corinne Jemison finished second with the No. 22 mark in the NCAA (16.18m/53 feet, 1 inch) while Trinity Franklin finished in fourth place with a mark of 15.09m (49 feet, 6.25 inches).
• Gabi Newman won the high jump, clearing 1.68m (5 feet, 5 inches) and tying her personal best. In the pole vault, Cate Visscher cleared 3.80m (12 feet, 5.5 inches) to finish in third, while freshman Kaitlin McHale cleared 3.65m (11 feet, 11.75 inches) to come in fourth.
