
Groumi Breaks School Record, Michigan Takes First at Georgia Tech Invitational

ATLANTA, Ga. -- The No. 17-ranked University of Michigan men's swimming and diving team tallied 1,418 points to win the Georgia Tech Invitational on Sunday (Nov. 24).
Gal Groumi made headlines in the morning's preliminary session, breaking the men's program record in the 100-yard freestyle, clocking a time of 41.98.
In the finals, Jon Jøntvedt took first in the mile swim with a time of 14:48.20. Joshua Brown finished close behind with a mark of 14:53.71.
Groumi outdid himself in the 100-yard freestyle, breaking his hours-old school record and throwing down a 41.75.
In the 200-yard butterfly, Colin Geer shined, finishing second overall with a time of 1:41.43. Freshman Lorne Wigginton came in fourth with a mark of 1:44.47.
The team of Geer, Groumi, Bence Szabados and Jack Wilkening combined to log a time of 2:50.95, finishing fourth in the race.
The Maize and Blue will be back in action when the calendar turns to 2025. Michigan will head to Bloomington, Ind., on Jan. 10 to take on the Indiana Hoosiers at 11:00 a.m.
