
Wolverines Set for Outdoor Opener at South Florida

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's track and field team will open the 2024 outdoor season on the road, heading to Tampa, Fla., for the USF Alumni Invitational on Friday and Saturday (March 15-16).
Notes
• On Friday (March 15), field action at USF Track and Field Stadium will begin at 2 p.m. with the long jump while track events will begin at 5:40 p.m. with the 800-meter run. On Saturday (March 16), the high jump at 1:30 p.m. will kick off field action while track events will begin with the 4x400-meter relay at 12:30 p.m.
• The Wolverines will open outdoor competition as the reigning Big Ten Outdoor champion, claiming the crown for the first time since 2016 while sweeping both the indoor and outdoor titles last season.
• The team claimed five event titles in addition to the team title, with Ziyah Holman winning the 400-meter dash title (50.90 seconds), Aasia Laurencin winning the 100-meter hurdles title (12.85), Savannah Sutherland winning the 400-meter hurdles title (55.75), Corinne Jemison winning the discus title (58.08m/190 feet, 6 inches), and Aurora Rynda winning the 800-meter run title (2:05.95).
• Jemison set the program standard for both the discus and the shot put (17.24m/52 feet, 6.75 inches), while Holman set records in the 200-meter dash (23.08) and the 400-meter dash.
• At the NCAA East Preliminaries, four Wolverines and the 4x400-meter relay team all punched tickets to the NCAA Championships. Laurencin (110-meter hurdles), Sutherland (400-meter hurdles), Holman (400-meter dash), and Rynda (800-meter run) represented Michigan as individuals, and Nikki Stephens, Sophie Isom, Rynda, and Holman competed as a relay team.
• Sutherland went on to win the NCAA 400-meter hurdles championship, the first Wolverine woman to win an NCAA title since 2017 (Jaimie Phelan, 1,500-meter run).
