
Jemison Sets Program Discus Record at USF Invitational

TAMPA, Fla. -- Corinne Jemison of the University of Michigan women's track and field team set the program discus standard as she and the Wolverines closed out the USF Alumni Invitational on Saturday (March 16).
Jemison entered the discus finals with a mark of 57.20m (187 feet, 8 inches) to lead the field, before throwing for 58.19m (190 feet, 11 inches) in her final attempt to break the program record and capture the win. The graduate student previously set the discus record (58.08m/190 feet, 6 inches) at the 2023 Big Ten Outdoor Championships.
Elizabeth Tapper also competed in the discus, finishing sixth with a mark of 48.57m (159 feet, 4 inches).
Two Wolverines finished in the top eight of the 400-meter dash, with Sidney Green taking sixth (54.92 seconds) and Sophie Isom taking eighth (55.25). Green was just 0.61 seconds from the No. 10 time in program history.
Penelopea Gordon (4:17.63), Samantha Hastie (4:18.23), Cassie Kearney (4:19.23) and Tilly Simpson (4:21.43) finished 1-2-3-4 in the 1,500-meter run, while Samantha Saenz finished seventh (4:24.28) and Rylee Tolson finished ninth (4:27.30). Hastie and Kearney both set personal bests.
The 4x400m relay team of Susan Bansbach, Green, Isom, and Noelani Phillips finished fourth with a time of 3:40.05.
The Maize and Blue will remain on the road, heading to Waco, Texas, for the Clyde Hart Invitational hosted by Baylor on Friday (March 22).
