Notes
• Michigan started Big Ten play last weekend with a series win against Penn State. The Wolverines dropped a close game on Friday, 4-3, before winning 9-6 on Saturday. Will Rogers led the Wolverines in the second game with two runs on two hits and earned a three-inning save in relief of Kurt Barr. In the Sunday rubber match, the Wolverines used a nine-run seventh inning to defeat Penn State, 11-6. Dylan Stanton scored three runs on three hits while Mitch Voit earned the win on the mound. Â
• Voit is hitting a team-leading .327 on the season with 33 hits, 15 runs and 15 RBIs. He is also tied for second with three home runs and leads the team with 12 doubles. Voit's doubles rank second in the conference and sixth in the nation. On the mound, Voit earned his second win of the season on Sunday against Penn State, when he threw 7.1 innings and allowed just two earned runs on six hits and no walks.Â
• U-M is fourth nationally in both double plays (28) and double plays per game (1.17). The Wolverines are in the mix with Purdue, UNC Asheville and New Mexico for the lead. Michigan's game high is four which they have reached twice this season. Kyle Dernedde has turned 21 with Mack Timbrook second at 19 and Voit in third on the team with 16. U-M has turned at least one double play in 16 of the 24 games this season. Â
• Over the last ten games, Stephen Hrustich is slashing .417/.553/.889 with four homers and double digit runs and RBIs. Hrustich has 32 total bases on 15 hits over the stretch in addition to 10 walks. On the season, Hrustich has drawn a team-leading 20 walks for a .449 on-base percentage and is second on the team in average at .289. He has started 23 of the 24 games this season, and has appeared in all three outfield positions and at catcher.
• AJ Garcia earned his first start of the season on Friday and proceeded to start the next two games -- all in center field. In the three games, he went 4-for-7 with two runs and one extra-base hit. He tallied two bunt singles and added his first RBI along with two stolen bases.
• Jacob Denner made two appearances over the weekend for a total of 5.1 innings pitched. He did not allow an earned run and struck out five batters. In his career, Denner has made 74 total appearances for sixth all-time in Michigan history and two behind fifth -- a tie between Ali Husain and Mike Ignasiak. Denner's five strikeouts also moved him up the all-time strikeout list to break a tie with Peter Helt. Denner is just two strikeouts away from tying Connor O'Halloran for 10th all-time at 222.
• Thirty-five of the 38 players on the roster have seen game action this season with 22 players recording a plate appearance and 18 players seeing action on the mound. Joonsung Park was the most recent to do so and was hit by a pitch in his first plate appearance. Five players have done both this season with Voit leading the way among those with six starts on the mound and 101 plate appearances. Only three players have started every game this season for the Wolverines, Voit, Kyle Dernedde and Cole Caruso.
• Michigan State sits at 9-12 on the season and is 1-2 in conference play. Last weekend, the Spartans lost the first and finale to Maryland in 10 innings and won the middle game, 5-2. MSU is 2-0 in midweek competitions and 2-0 against Western Michigan, who U-M opened the season against. All-time, Michigan is 215-112-2 against the Spartans and 50-28 since 2000. At home, the Wolverines are 114-46-1 and won the home series last season.
