BALTIMORE, Md. -- Senior Michael Boehm broke the school record for points, goals and assists, but they weren't enough as the No. 14-ranked University of Michigan men's lacrosse team fell 15-11 to No. 8 Johns Hopkins on Saturday (March 30) at Homewood Field.
Boehm's five-point game made him the new U-M career record-holder for points (217), goals (120), and assists (97).
Michigan (6-4, 1-1 Big Ten) got on the board first, as graduate midfielder Beau Pederson converted a tally off a wing dodge 51 seconds into the contest.
Following a Johns Hopkins goal at 11:43 of the opening quarter, the Wolverines went on a 3-0 run that featured a pair of scores from sophomore Bo Lockwood (7:44, 5:35) that sandwiched a score from graduate attackman Justin Tiernan at 6:38 to take a 4-1 lead.
The Blue Jays (7-3, 2-0 Big Ten) closed the quarter with two straight, capped off by a man-up goal at 2:33 to get within one of U-M, 4-3, after one. Both teams went scoreless for nearly eight minutes until Hopkins tied it at 10:28 of the second, knotting the score at four.
U-M snapped a nearly 13-minute scoreless streak at 7:45 on Tiernan's second of the day off a wing feed from Lockwood. Off the ensuing faceoff, Boehm cashed in on his historic goal to become U-M's all-time point leader with 213. Classmate Justin Wietfeldt won the faceoff forward and distributed to Boehm who brought the count to 6-4.
JHU then went on a 4-0 run to take an 8-6 lead at the 4:25 mark of the quarter. Junior Ryan Cohen put a stop to the streak on a man-up score off an assist from Boehm with 3:37 to go in the half as the Wolverines trailed 8-7 at the intermission.
Coming out of the half, JHU notched two straight goals to stretch its lead to 10-7, and held U-M scoreless until 2:51 to play in the third. Boehm's record-setting goal, his second of the contest, came on an extra-man chance from Cohen's third helper of the contest. Boehm finished high-to-low for the lone Wolverine goal of the quarter as the contest went to the fourth with U-M chasing a three-goal deficit, 11-8.

Following a Blue Jays score at 10:26 of the fourth quarter, Tiernan deposited his third goal of the day at 9:45 on a helper from Boehm to make it a three-goal game, 12-9, but that proved to be the closest U-M got the rest of the contest and fell 15-11.
The result marked the first time U-M has scored first in a contest and lost the game; its record now sits at 6-1 in those contests. Wietfeldt dominated at the dot in the first half, going 13-of-14 at the dot, but the category flipped in the second half as U-M went a collective 4-of-12. Overall, U-M went 18-of-29 (62 percent), with Wietfeldt winning 17-of-25 with 11 ground balls.
Tiernan led U-M with three scores, while Cohen led with five points (two goals, three assists) and four ground balls. Sophomore goalkeeper Hunter Taylor made 12 saves.
The Wolverines close out its regular-season home slate next Sunday (April 7), hosting Rutgers at 7 p.m. The matchup will be broadcast live on Big Ten Network.
