
Sutherland Posts Top 400-Meter Hurdle Time at Tom Jones Invitational

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Reigning NCAA 400-meter hurdles champion Savannah Sutherland of the University of Michigan women's track and field team competed in the event for the first time this season -- posting the No. 1 time (54.86) in the NCAA and the world at the Tom Jones Invitational on Friday (April 12). The winning time was just .41 seconds shy of her school-record time of 54.45. Sidney Green also ran the 400-meter hurdles, finishing 14th with a personal-best time of 57.47. The time ranks as the fourth-fastest time in program history.
Noelani Phillips finished 42nd in the 200-meter dash with a season-best time of 24.01.
In the javelin throw, Emma Yungeberg threw for a mark of 48.63m (159-6) to finish seventh while Clare McNamara finished 20th with a mark of 38.06m (124-10).
Maria Deaviz placed sixth in the shot put, throwing for a mark of 16.73m (54-10.75).
The Wolverines will close out the Tom Jones Invitational on Saturday, April 13. Field action will begin at 9 a.m. with the discus and track action will begin at 10 a.m. with the 400-meter dash.
