
Wolverines to Split Up Between Wake Forest, Kentucky

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 21-ranked University of Michigan women's track and field team will split the weekend between two meets, heading to Winston-Salem, N.C., for the Wake Forest Invitational on Friday (April 19) and Lexington, Ky., for the Jim Green Invitational on Friday and Saturday (April 19-20).
Notes
• Eight Wolverines from the distance squad will compete at Wake Forest, while the rest of the team will compete at Kentucky. Action in North Carolina will begin at 7:47 a.m. with the 5,000-meter run. In the Bluegrass State, competition will open at 12:30 p.m. with the heptathlon 100-meter hurdles on Friday (April 19) and 10:30 a.m. on Saturday (April 20) with the heptathlon long jump.
• The Maize and Blue is back in the USTFCCCA rankings, returning to the top-25 at No. 21. Two event squads continue to sit in the top-10, with the shot put squad coming in at No. 3 and the 1,500-meter run squad coming in at No. 9.
• At the Tom Jones Invitational last weekend (April 12-13), Michigan had several impressive performances. Reigning NCAA 400-meter hurdles champion Savannah Sutherland competed in the event for the first time this season -- posting the No. 1 time in the NCAA and the world (54.86 seconds), just 0.41 seconds shy of her school-record time of 54.45. Sutherland was named Big Ten Co-Track Athlete of the Week for her performance. Sidney Green continues to improve in the event, setting a personal best of 57.47, the fourth-fastest in program history.
• Aasia Laurencin posted back-to-back personal bests in the 100-meter hurdles, running 12.74 in the preliminaries to advance to the finals before finishing second with another personal best of 12.72. Laurencin's finals time is the No. 2 mark in program history, just 0.12 seconds behind the program record.
• In the 800-meter run, Penelopea Gordon finished 10th with a personal-best time of 2:04.15, while Cassie Kearney finished 18th (2:06.51) and Samantha Hastie finished 19th (2:06.59). Gordon's time is tied for the sixth fastest in program history.
• The 4x400-meter relay team of Sophie Isom, Green, Sutherland and Noelani Phillips finished 16th with a time of 3:36.71, the No. 8 time in program history.
