
Wolverines to Look to Extend Win Streaks Hosting Indiana, Purdue

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan men's tennis team (10-10, 4-0 Big Ten) hosts Indiana (13-6, 2-1 Big Ten) and Purdue (6-10, 1-2 Big Ten) this weekend at the Varsity Tennis Center. The Wolverines take on the Hoosiers on Friday (April 5) at 6 p.m. and the Boilermakers on Sunday (April 7) at noon. Admission to both matches is free.
Notes
• Michigan is in a tie for first place in the Big Ten with a 4-0 record. Ohio State and Michigan State also are undefeated in conference play at the midway mark of the league schedule.
• The Wolverines are 7-2 when playing at the Varsity Tennis Center this season and sport a 10-10 overall record with 11 matches against ranked teams.
• Michigan defeated Northwestern 4-0 last Friday (March 29) before earning a 4-2 win at No. 19 Illinois on Sunday (March 31), marking the second-highest ranked team the Wolverines have defeated this season, after topping No. 9 Stanford in January.
• In the all-time series, Michigan is 74-16-1 against the Hoosiers and is 26-5 since 2000, winning the last 10 meetings. Indiana is 13-6 overall, ranked No. 62 in the ITA computerized rankings and 2-1 in the conference. IU has one ranked singles player in Sam Landau (No. 69) and has a ranked doubles pair in Michael Andre and Ilya Tirapolsky (No. 61).
• The Wolverines have dominated the all-time series with Purdue, winning the last 20 meetings and owning a 79-10 overall record.
• Gavin Young, ranked No. 17 in singles, has won his last five matches and is 14-10 overall. He is 8-6 playing at No. 1 and is 3-0 in Big Ten matches.
• Four other Wolverines boast win streaks including Will Cooksey, who has won his last four matches and is a perfect 4-0 in league play. Mert Oral has won his last three matches, while Alex Cairo and Nicholas Steiglehner have each won their last two.
• Jacob Bickersteth is one match away from reaching 50 career singles wins. He currently sits with a 49-23 record and is ranked No. 124.
• Bickersteth and Young are 4-0 in doubles play and 9-5 overall. The duo is ranked No. 23 in the ITA doubles rankings. Bjorn Swenson and Oral also are 4-0 in doubles play, winning at No. 3, and are 6-1 overall.
